VEGGIE CHICK!

A veggie on a mission...

Fashion, Farming and Vivisection Links

Welcome! Although the categories on this page are not related to each other, there are only three or four links in each one so it seemed silly to put them on seperate pages. I have tried to make the page as easy to read as possible.

Fashion Links

www.respectforanimals.org
Respect for Animals take a legal but hard-hitting approach to campaigning and many of their poster campaigns are certain stomach churners. One of the best things about them is that they're fully international with the website alone available in six languages and campaigns frequently translated to be syndicated worldwide. Many of their banners and posters have a 'blood and guts' theme so if you're squeamish, beware!

www.caft.org.uk
CAFT (the Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade) is a non-aggressive campaign group which produces a range of factsheets and leaflets, encourages consumers to boycott retailers which sell fur and campaigns for tighter controls on the labelling of fur to prevent consumers unwittingly buying real fur they believe is fake. It also campaigns to raise awareness of the use of dog, cat and rabbit fur to produce 'cuddly' toys and gifts.

www.furfree.info
Fur Free is a campaign to encourage retailers not to sell fur products and consumers not to buy them. Some of the images are very graphic but it's a cute site overall and very informative too. When you visit, remember to read up on the 'Kurt Geiger' protest to give you some inspiration.

Farming Links

www.factoryfarming.org.uk
This website will tell you everything you need to know about factory farming methods and their implications on us, animals and the environment. It's an absolutely brilliant site but be warned- the images used are very graphic and some highly distressing stories are told.

www.bancruelfarms.org
A very similar site run by the same people as the previous one, this site contains some very graphic images and some harrowing undercover video footage. If you're thinking of becoming vegetarian or a veggie in danger of  becoming a meatie again, this site is a must-see.

www.ciwf.org.uk
CIWF (Compassion in World Farming) are not against farming providing it is conducted in a humane way and their website is one of the best farming resources on the web. With a clear and comprehensive guide to the confusing guidelines governing different aspects of farming, campaign information and a handy e-newsletter service, you'll find everything you need here.

www.hillside.org.uk
The website of Hillside Animal Sanctuary, a little known and much underestimated sanctuary for animals who have suffered through farming. Also an active campaign group, Hillside's website includes the subscription form for their e-newsletter and details of their successful animal sponsorship scheme- an ideal gift for animal-loving family and friends perhaps?

Vivisection Links

www.navs.org
NAVS (the National Anti-Vivisection Society) campaigns against using animals in laboratory research and promotes the various animal-friendly alternatives there are. It is a brilliant starting point for anybody new to campaigning and an extremely useful resource for debates.

www.buav.org
The BUAV (British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection) c
ampaign to end animal testing in laboratories around Britian and worldwide. They publish a free guide to cruelty-free cosmetics companies and endorse cruelty-free products with their own 'white rabbit' logo.

www.drhadwentrust.org
The Dr. Hadwen Trust funds and promotes non-animal research, working hard in the development of reliable and efficient alternatives to animal testing, in the interests of human health as well as in the interests of animals. Here you'll find a fabulous FAQ section which will tell you all you need to know for school projects, debates or campaigns and lots of opportunites to get active and support the Trust in their vital work. There is also a Dr Hadwen Trust shop at www.crueltyfreeshop.com. All of the proceeds from the wide range of goods in this shop, including gorgeous toiletries and chocolates which are ethical and vegan, support the Trust.

www.uncaged.co.uk
The Uncaged Campaigns website sums up its aim in its tagline- 'end vivisection'. What more is there to say? As well as campaign details, you'll find information about vivisection and xenotransplantation and a handy shopping guide.
