VEGGIE CHICK!

A veggie on a mission...

Welcome to my Games page!

Welcome to my Games page. This page has been under construction for several days and now at last it's available for you to enjoy. I'm not the most imaginative when it comes to creating games but you will find: a selection of anagrams (scrambled words), a quiz, a guessing game and some 'true or false' questions to test your veggie knowledge on. There's also a chance to test your word finding skills (against mine!) at the end. All the answers may be found by clicking here or following the link at the bottom of the page. For now, what would you like to play?

The following groups of letters can be rearranged to make proper words. Can you work out what those words are? The first column are animals (eg. dnaap is panda). The second column are makers of exclusively vegetarian and/or vegan alternatives to meat, fish or dairy products. (eg. ruqno is quorn). The last column are topics covered on this website. (eg. gmnvseia is veganism)

1. eoknym   6. rudlanco   10. evscvniotii
2. nethpeal 7. plaor         11. nitnugh

The Non-Veggie Ingredients Quiz

All of the ingredients below are not suitable for veggies and vegans. Do you know where they come from? More importantly, do you know where you're likely to find them? Test Yourself! The Answers page includes their sources as well as a few places where they often turn up. The ingredients may be found in cosmetics and household items as well as in food.

1. Gelatine
2. Cochineal
3. Rennet
4. Suet
5. Chitin
6. Keratin
7. Tallow

Have a Guess!

Read the questions below and guess the answer to each one. Write down your guesses and then compare them to the actual answers on the Answer page. The aim of this game is to find out how much you know about the environmental and health issues behind vegetarianism as well as how big a difference is made when just one person turns veggie. If your guesses are anything like mine were, the answers will surprise you. No peeking!

1. How many fish does the average meatie eat in their lifetime?
2. How many species become extinct every hour?
3. By what % are veggies and vegans less likely to die of a heart attack?
4. How many kilograms of plant protein are needed to make 1kg of meat protein?
5. How many animals are killed for food every year worldwide?
6. How many square kilometres of rainforest are destroyed every year?
7. How many whales and dolphins are killed by fishing nets every year?
8. How many chickens does the average meatie eat in their lifetime?
9. How many animals does a lifetime veggie save?
10. By what % are veggies and vegans less likely to die of cancer (any cancer) than meaties?

What's a...?

This simple matching game tests your understanding of the different terms used to describe vegetarians based on what they include in their diets. All you have to do (using a pen and paper) is match the highlighted terms listed on the left with the descriptions on the right. It really is as easy as it looks!

1. Vegan                                     A. This person eats no meat, fish or dairy products but they do eat eggs.
2. Ovo - Veggie                          B. This person eats no meat, fish or eggs but they do eat dairy products.
3. Lacto - Ovo Veggie
C. This person eats no meat or fish but they do eat eggs and dairy products.
4. Non - Meat Eater                   D. This person eats and wears no animal products at all.
5. Lacto - Veggie
E. This person eats no meat but they do eat fish and/or poultry.

True or False?

I'm sure you already know what to do but I'll tell you anyway. Read the following statements and decide whether they are true or false. You'll find the correct answers on the Answer page but I don't think they'll surprise you.

1. There are no vegan sources of vitamin B12 which is traditionally a slaughterhouse by-product.
2. Farm animal dung is 100 times more polluting than human waste and highly toxic.
3. It is not safe for pregnant women or women who are breastfeeding to follow a vegan diet.
4.10 hectares (5 football pitches) of land will provide enough soya for 61 people but only enough meat for two.
5. 90% of the world's animal feed is grown in Third World countries where human starvation occurs daily.

Wordfinder

In many ways, this game is the easiest of them all because you don't have to know anything. It's also the most interesting because you'll be playing against me! I played this game before I made this page and you can see my answers on the answer page. Good Luck!

1. Write the word VEGETARIAN across the top of your paper.
2. Find as many words as you can using only those letters.

Remember:
1. You can only use each letter as many times as it appears in VEGETARIAN.
2. All of your words must be at least three letters long.
3. The word vegetarian does not count towards your total or your longest word.

Now try the same with the word VIVISECTION. The same rules apply.

Not including the word itself, I found 29 words in VEGETARIAN. The longest were two words of six letters. In VIVISECTION, I found 24 words. The longest were two words of seven letters.
