A veggie on a mission...

Sport and Entertainment Links

Welcome! This page lists organisations and websites related to cruel sports such as hunting and shooting . I have also listed organisations related to zoos and circuses on this page as there aren't many links in this category.

Fishing Links

www.fishinghurts.com
A colourful and well designed website, Fishing Hurts promotes eating a fish-free diet and raises awareness of the issues behind fishing. All of the arguments used are supported by science and the environmental and health issues are covered in addition to the animal rights ones. Its 'sister' website www.lobsterlib.com covers similar issues focusing only on lobsters.

www.pisces.demon.co.uk
This is the website of Pisces, an anti-angling group focusing more on the banning of fishing (angling) as a hobby than commercial fishing or fish eating. It's an extremely useful, if slightly 'wordy' resource with a dedicated youth section.

Hunting Links

www.league.org.uk
The recently re-designed website of LACS (the League Against Cruel Sports) details all their tireless campaigns against various cruel sports including hunting, shooting, greyhound racing and the snare trap. An ideal starting point for all anti-hunt activists, this site is the perfect companion to that of the Hunt Saboteurs Association.

www.huntsabs.org.uk
The Hunt Saboteurs Association website provides up to date news about their relentless campaign to ensure the hunting ban is properly enforced and provides a valuable directory of all the regional groups there are working to save foxes being hunted illegally.

Horse Racing Links

www.horseracingbettingtipster.com
This hard-hitting anti-horse racing site including a video clip you'll watch with your heart in your mouth. With lots of facts and info packs available, this site really does tell you "what the bookies don't want you to know."

www.horsedeathwatch.com
Thousands of horses die while racing every year. Thousands more are destroyed after being severely injured in a race yet their deaths are never made public as leading horse racing authorities shrug them off as 'accidental' or 'unexplained'. This is no longer possible as during the 2007 Cheltenham Festival, Animal Aid launched the Race Horse Death Watch. This is an online database of every single horse death which has occured on a UK racecourse since 13th March 2007. Each entry features the horse's name and cause of death as well as the date and course and you can search the database under 'Course', 'Jockey' or 'Going'. Data for the USA is also available.

Circus and Zoo Links

www.captiveanimals.org
CAPS (the Captive Animals Protection Society) campaigns against the keeping of animals in circuses, zoos and aquariums and fights to protect those already trapped by monitoring how animals are transported and housed and their working hours. Elephants feature predominantly in their campaigns. It's a must for all activists and animal lovers wondering what the harm is in a day trip to the zoo.

www.bornfree.org.uk
The Born Free Foundation campaigns to end the imprisonment of animals in zoos, circuses and aquariums and undertakes projects to protect animals in the wild without the need to confine them to 'conservation zones'. Current projects include monitoring wild elephant groups in the battle against the ivory trade, caring for orphaned chimpanzees in a purpose built sanctuary and running 'Zoo Check', a scheme which recruits volunteers to visit zoos and report back to them on the conditions of the animals and their enclosures.

www.careforthewild.org
Care for the Wild is an international animal conservation charity which funds practical conservation projects around the world. Such projects include protecting animals vulnerable to poachers, providing treatment for injured and distressed animals in the wild and providing long-term care in purpose-built sanctuaries for those animals tragically unable to return to the wild. This website is extremely colourful and informative. It includeds a shop, several opportunities to 'adopt' a range of wild animals, an e-newsletter subscription form and details of the selection of jobs available for interested volunteers.
