Vegetarianism and Veganism Links

Welcome to the vegetarianism and veganism links page. After accidentally deleting it, I have had to start again so apologies to any sites I have forgotten. Just let me know and I'll add you right away. Here you'll find links to a vast array of sites dedicated to vegetarianism and veganism, recipes and nutrition.

www.vegsoc.org
The Vegetarian Society is the authority on vegetarianism in the UK. Here you'll find lots of advice to help you become or stay veggie, handy factsheets to read, free resources to order for yourself or your school and a directory where you can find your local veggie group. VegSoc also run Seedling Showcase, a directory of VegSoc approved products with competitions and an FAQ section and Young Veggie- their outstanding youth site.

www.vegansociety.com
The Vegan Society will tell you all you need to know about veganism and their website is packed with information. Here you'll find nutritional advice, shopping tips, a guide to their range of publications for vegans, up-to-date vegan news and an events diary. There's a shop too and a handy guide to the 'sunflower' logo with which they approve vegan products.

www.vegetarian.org.uk
This is the website of the Vegetarian and Vegan Foundation which was formed to promote vegetarianism and veganism for health reasons using sound scientific research. The VVF does not explore animal rights issues in its promotion of vegetarianism and veganism, showing that there are a myriad of other reasons for turning veggie, contrary to some sceptics beliefs. Here you'll find detailed factsheets and nutritional advice as well as a full guide to the fabulous 'V-Plan ' diet. This healthy vegan slimming plan makes a welcome change from the range of restrictive and unhealthy diets on the market.

www.veggiehealth.org
Formerly a plain-looking site, Veggie Health has recently been revamped and I just love the new look! Here you'll find a guide to all the health issues surrounding vegetarianism, including all the health scares there have been about meat and the science behind the belief that veggies live longer. There's also lots of useful info and tips for activists and a haunting slideshow exploring the cruelty behind the meat industry. You'll find it on the 'Why I Became Veggie' page. Make sure you watch it with your speaker volume on full as the music is extremely moving but very quiet.

www.vegcooking.com
Veg Cooking was voted the best vegetarian cooking site at the 2006 Veg Webby Awards and deservedly so. It's colourful, well organised and packed with information. You'll find nutritional advice, cookery book reviews, recipes and a guide to all the latest veggie products. There are also competitions to enter and a free veggie starter kit is available. Veg Cooking even has its own TV 'channel'.

www.goveg.com
A very similar site to the previous one, Go Veg offers recipes, nutritional advice, lots of encouragement for struggling new veggies and some interesting facts. I particluarly enjoyed the ' 10 Reasons not to eat Babe and Wilbur' feature. It raised some fascinating points. Did you know, for example, that pigs are smarter than 3-year-old children?

www.veganfamily.co.uk
Vegan Family House is the amazing site of a vegan family from Scotland. It's packed with nutritional information, gorgeous recipes, a page full of quotes from famous veggies and vegans (I loved the cursor trail and music on this one) and a bookstore. Check out their blog, By Other Means, too. The children are home educated and this blog records their daily activites. It's packed with photos and interesting links and I follow it every day.

www.yellins.com/veg
This is the website of the Vegetarian Centre and I really love it. Owners Simon and Maria King describe their site as the 'non-activist vegetarian site' and it is just that. Packed with information but completely non-aggressive and non-judgemental, it provides: nutritional advice, homework help, games, useful veggie phrases in several major languages (ideal for the holiday season) and a handy additives checklist plus much much more!!!

www.parsleysoup.co.uk
Parsley Soup is an amazing vegan recipe site. Here you'll find a huge selection of vegan starters, main courses and desserts plus special recipes for Christmas, Easter and Valentines Day and children's recipes. The site is really colourful and easy to navigate and each recipe is easy to follow with full instructions, cooking times and temperatures and a photograph. There's also a page about the vegan diet, links and favourite products pages and a guestbook. The most amazing thing is, this is all the work of one woman. Please visit and see for yourself.
